Embroidery needles come in a variety of sizes. The embroidery needle sizes we offer are 65/9, 70/10, 75/11, 80/12, and 90/14. Here are three common needle sizes for your reference:

  • 65/9: Mainly used for small detail work when curves are sharp and density is an issue.
  • 75/11: This is the most common size and is used 70-80% of the time because the diameter is not too large for embroidery and provides adequate needle force.
  • 90/14: This needle is used for heavier fabrics, such as denim, because it creates larger holes in the fabric when embroidering.

3. Choose A needle size

As mentioned, different choices of thread, density, fabric and stabilizer need a suitable needle, and below are the tips for you to select the right size.

First, consider the material you are going to embroider.

Thick and dense like wool or canvas? From 90/14.

Light or medium duty (like quilting cotton)? Try 75/11.

Very light and delicate, like voile, chiffon, or crepe? Maybe even 70/10 or 65/9.

have no idea? 75/11 is a good place to start.

Second, check that the thread you choose is suitable for that needle size.

108D thread: 75/11 is suggested

75D thread: 65/9 is suggested

4. Tell the Difference between Sewing needle and Embroidery Needle

The eye of an embroidery machine needle is usually larger than the eye of a standard sewing needle.
The embroidery needle has a deep scarf, as mentioned above. They also have a rounded corner to protect the cord from shredding and breaking.
